Confirming some long running rumors Marvel Studios will not be at hand for this year’s San Diego Comic Con to promote their upcoming films which include next year’s Captain America Civil War.
A few months ago in March the rumors started when Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn had an impromptu Q&A on Facebook. One of his fans asked if he would be attending the convention this year and he responded stating
“I’m not sure. Marvel isn’t going so I’m not sure I will either.”
This led fans to speculate whether or not they would attend, but this recent news confirms what James Gunn already knew.
In the light of Marvel Studios absence Warner Bros. will be stepping up and having a good amount of DC related films that will be coming out next year.
Disney’s D23 Expo may be the reason why Marvel has decided to forgo the massive convention. D23 Expo will be taking place in August and will have a heavy Marvel presence, and by forgoing Comic Con it may help gain more promotion for D23.
It is strange to forgo one of the world’s largest conventions, but Marvel Studios has a big enough following that they don’t seem concerned for missing out on the fun this year.
