Fans of Hellboy movies may soon be shedding a tear into the depth of Satan’s fiery hole, but the good news is that all is not lost. According to recent reports, Ron Perlman, the onscreen incarnation of Hellboy, isn’t confident a third installment of the franchise will happen.
Talking to Screen Rant about his comic character, Perlman said the he and director Guillermo del Toro “don’t talk about that [the movie] anymore” because they are both busy. Although he didn’t completely shut the door on a Hellboy 3, Perlman wasn’t exactly confident that he’ll don the Hellboy costume any time soon.
With the comments now cutting through the community like a red-hot trident through butter, fans are wondering where they can get their next Hellboy fix. Fortunately, as is often the case with iconic comic creations, Hellboy now exists in a myriad of media. From comics and cosplay stores to online casino games and classic artwork, there are plenty of ways for fans to enjoy their favorite superhero.
If you’re one of those currently weeping salty drops of water into the fire pits of hell, fear not because we’ve found three of the best Hellboy spinoffs for you to enjoy. Although they might not quite offer the same feature-length entertainment as a third Hellboy movie, they are all engaging in their own unique ways:
One of the reasons the original Hellboy was a hit was because of Mike Mignola’s artwork. After creating the beastly hero in 1993, Mignola spent a great deal of time making sure Anung Un Rama (aka Hellboy) looked imposing yet friendly all at once. Making a demonic creature (often the antithesis to the forces of good) the hero in a comic series isn’t easy. However, Mignola was able to do it through a combination of dry wit and excellent illustrations.
Today, fans of Mignola’s work can view and purchase prints, paintings, drawings and original illustrations from ArtofMikeMignola.com. The collection encompasses all of Mignola’s artwork; so, if you’re a true Hellboy fan, there will be plenty of pieces for you to enjoy.
Thanks to software developer Microgaming, Hellboy is now able to set your head in a spin. Based on the original comic and featuring visuals, sound effects and in-game animations, the Hellboy slot is now an integral part of the iGaming industry. Indeed, when you scroll through the online slots at William Hill, Hellboy stands out as one of the most popular due to its dynamics.
Five reels, 20 paylines and a potential jackpot of $30,000 make this a game that’s not only entertaining but potentially lucrative. However, if you’re looking for a new way to enjoy Hellboy without the cost, that’s also possible. William Hill also offers a free-play version of Hellboy, which means you can sign up, spin and have some fun without dipping into your bank account.
If you really want to submerge yourself in Hellboy then there’s only one option: cosplay. Dressing up like a demonic dude or dudette is a great way to get into the spirit of the character; especially if you’re attending an event like Comic Con. Depending on your budget and level of immersion, there are plenty of options out there.
Perhaps one of the most impressive in recent years was Adam Savage’s Silicon Valley suit. The Mythbusters presenter not only had a heavy-duty helmet that was a replica of the comic book version of Hellboy, he also had the actual tail and leather jacket worn by Ron Perlman in the Hellboy movie.
As you can see, Hellboy is very much alive and well. Although we may never see a third installment of the movie franchise, we’ve hopefully given you three ways to indulge your comic desires and enjoy Hellboy without it.
