In the past few weeks, we’ve had several casting announcements for the upcoming Marvel series, The Inhumans, which is coming to ABC this fall for eight episodes starting in September. As the show is officially in production, additional details about the new Marvel show have come out and it appears that we’ll be meeting another race of Inhumans. Bleeding Cool recently chatted with Marvel writer Charles Soule (Uncanny Inhumans, Inhumans Vs X-Men) who revealed that we will be seeing the appearance of NuHumans characters.
So what are “NuHumans” exactly in the Marvel Universe? They are a newer generation of Inhumans that got their abilities activated during the big Inhumanity storyline when Earth got surrounded by a big cloud of Terrigen Mist which was the result of Attilan’s destruction, the home city of the Royal Family, when a Terrigenesis bomb detonated. While Soule didn’t reveal what characters exactly would appear, he did seem to hint that characters that he has created will be showing up from the NuHumans line-up.
While she isn’t a NuHuman, one of Soule’s creations that has been added to the show already is Auran, with Sonya Balmores set to play the character that is the head of the Royal Guards on Attilan. This wouldn’t be the first time that we have seen NuHumans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The 3rd season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. featured one of Soule’s creations, Lash, who was revealed to be Melinda May’s ex-husband, Andrew Garner, after he discovered that he was an Inhuman.
“The Inhumans, a race of superhumans with diverse and singularly unique powers, were first introduced in Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965. Since that time, they have grown in prominence and become some of the most popular and iconic characters in the Marvel Universe. “Marvel’s The Inhumans” will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family.”
Marvel’s The Inhumans, starring Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels) as Black Bolt, Serinda Swan (Smallville) as Medusa, Iwan Rhoen (Game of Thrones) as Maximus the Mad and Ken Leung (LOST) as Karnak, Eme Ikwuakor (Concussion) as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish (Australia Day) as Crystal, Mike Moh (Empire) as Triton, Sonya Balmores (Beyond the Break) as Auran, and Ellen Woglom (Californication), premieres on Tuesday, September 26 on ABC – no official timeslot has been given yet.
