The Belfast Telegraph reports that Belfast will serve as a shooting location for the Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars spin-off in 2019.
According to the outlet, the staff at the Northern Ireland city’s Paint Hall studios have been informed that the next Star Wars anthology film will arrive in town once the final season of Game of Thrones completes production. Star Wars creator George Lucas was reportedly spotted in the city before Christmas, where he was visiting to check out locations and give his seal of approval to the next standalone film in the franchise.
Lucas was reportedly given a guided tour of Paint Hall studios last November and the outlet’s sources claim to have been told that there will be work there through 2019 when the Star Wars film begins shooting:
“It was all very low key, only a few people knew that the old guy walking round the set was George Lucas. It was only when we were told about Star Wars coming here next year that it dawned on us that was why he was here before Christmas.”
Although no longer officially involved with the franchise, Lucas has been known to visit the sets of the new Star Wars films, so it is not outside the realm of possibility that he would be dropping by the studio where production on the Obi-Wan Kenobi film will take place.
Details on the developing Obi-Wan Kenobi film are under wraps, though director Stephen Daldry was reportedly in talks to helm the project while both Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson have expressed interest in reprising their respective roles of Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn for the standalone film.

8 ‘Star Wars’ Spin-Off Movies We Really Want To See
May the 4th be with you, everyone! Even on May the 8th! With Star Wars weekend in the rear-view mirror, it’s still a great time to kick back, get out your old glow-in-the-dark lightsaber toys and Darth Vader Halloween masks, and pop in those original trilogy DVDs. Maybe even all 8 currently-released films, if you’re up for the challenge (both mental and otherwise). Speaking of which, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story just came out on Blu-ray, marking the first home release of many Star Wars spin-off movies to come.
Of these, only one future title has been confirmed – Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, to be released in May of 2018. Beyond that, we know Disney had at least two more planned, and probably more down the line. And why not? The Star Wars universe is so ripe for exploration. There are so many characters we were introduced to in the Saga movies that could easily get their own film. And it doesn’t stop there. The legacy of the Jedi and the Sith go back thousands of years, opening up virtually endless possibilities of story material.
Given this abundance of material just waiting to be tapped into, Heroic Hollywood decided to celebrate the Star Wars holiday by compiling a list of the Star Wars stand-alone movies we’d most like to see. While some of the films on this list are more likely to be developed than others, they each share one unifying factor: they’d all be freakin’ awesome!
