Star Wars fans have been hoping for some time that Ewan McGregor would return to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars universe. When Disney announced that they would be moving forward with Star Wars spin-off films, like that of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it seemed that returning to the character of Obi-Wan could be likely. After all, McGregor himself has expressed interest in returning to the Star Wars franchise.

Entertainment Weekly’s Anthony Breznican spoke with Rebel Force Radio and opened up about the possibility of a Obi-Wan feature film. It should be noted that this news didn’t come from an official source connected with Lucasfilm or Disney.

“I have heard rumors that the one reason they haven’t moved sooner on Obi-Wan is that they’re not done with Obi-Wan quite yet in the Saga films. So I wouldn’t be surprised to see an Obi-Wan [solo film] happen beyond Episode IX.”

While it appears that an Obi-Wan isn’t in the works, it’s clear that he could still play an important role in the current trilogy. It won’t be until 2017 that Rey and her crew return to the big screen but audiences can look forward to seeing the first Star Wars spin-off film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in just a few weeks.

While Rogue One isn’t expected to do Force Awakens numbers, it’s on track to be one of the biggest openings in December. Estimates have Rogue One making $140 – 150 million opening weekend.

Following the foundation of the Galactic Empire, a wayward band of Rebel fighters come together to carry out a desperate mission: to steal the plans for the Death Star before it can be used to enforce the Emperor’s rule.

Rogue One arrives in theaters on December 16th and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Jonathan Aris.

I’m happy to hear this. I just want them to move forward after Rogue One or if they must go backwards go all the way back the Kotor time.

    • Chris W

You know they’re doing a han solo movie right?

      • Carl

Yeah and I have no interest in it.

        • Chris W

          But they’re already doing it.

          • Carl

Yeah and I wish they’d stop. It’s a story that doesn’t need to be told. But yeah going forward after that craptacular idea, no more prequels.
