The Ocean’s series is one of the best in the heist genre. Of course, everybody is fully aware of George Clooney’s version, which co-starred Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and Academy Award nominee, Casey Affleck. Those films, released in 2001, 2004, and 2007, respectively, were all directed by Magic Mike‘s Steven Soderbergh. For years, fans of the franchise had demanded a potential follow-up, feeling a little… disappointed with how the second and third films turned out. However, no one really expected this announcement.

Warner Bros. revealed an all-female spin-off film, simply titled, Ocean’s Eight. Set in the same universe as the Soderbergh/Clooney films, Eight will detail Danny Ocean’s (Clooney) cousin, Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) as she attempts to pull off an impossible heist at New York City’s Met Gala. The film will also star Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, Helena Botham Carter, with Damien Lewis portraying the film’s main antagonist. Rumour has it that Damon’s Linus Caldwell will appear in the movie, no word on how big his role will be.

The studio has released the first official image from the film, as well as a (rough) synopsis. You can check out both below:

What do you guys think? Are you excited to see another Ocean’s film? The Hunger Games‘ Gary Ross will helm the project, based on a script from himself and Olivia Milch. Clooney and Soderbergh will produce the project. Ocean’s Eight is scheduled to hit theatres everywhere on June 8, 2018.

Just a young writer hoping to become an old writer. From the land Down Under; no, I don't know Jai Courtney.

I’m okay with everything else but…

“Debbie”? Why does it have to have a similar sounding name to Danny? Couldn’t it be Shannon Ocean for example? Or I don’t know, Mabel Ocean?

    That just irks me.

I don’t really mind. Maybe their parents had a ‘D’ thing like the Kardashians do with K’s.

good cast, only concern is if Gary Ross is the right fit.
