Pacific Rim: Uprising is set to earn more than Black Panther this weekend, knocking the film off its streak of topping the box office for five straight weeks.
While Black Panther has become one of the highest grossing films of all time, no movie can hold the top of the box office forever. With the premiere of Pacific Rim: Uprising, the film was finally knocked from the top, only earning sixteen million dollars compared to Pacific Rim: Uprising, which earned twenty-five million. The movie also premiered in three hundred thirty-eight more theaters than Black Panther is currently showing in.
While there’s no reason to believe Pacific Rim: Uprising will outearn Black Panther by the end of its box office run, it has topped the earnings of the box office this weekend. With the movie still earning less than the original Pacific Rim and having mixed reviews, perhaps the only honor Pacific Rim: Uprising will be taking home from the box office is that it dethroned the king after five weeks of uncontested dominance.
Directed by Steven S. DeKnight, Pacific Rim Uprising stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, Rinko Kikuchi, Jing Tian, Adria Arjona, Karan Brar, Ivanna Sakhno, Zhang Jin, Mackenyu, Shyrley Rodriguez, Levi Meaden, Rahart Adams and Zhu Zhu.
Pacific Rim: Uprising is showing in theaters now.
