It’s now been two days since cameras have started rolling on Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, but the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 science-fiction monster film has just made a new addition to its cast. Variety has revealed that Nick Tarabay (Spartacus, Arrow) has joined the cast of the movie, though details on the role he’ll play remain under wraps.
Tarabay joins a cast that so far includes John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Adria Arjona, Mackenyu Maeda, Jing Tian and Levi Meaden. The project is currently filming in Australia, but a portion of the film will also be shot in China.
The sequel is being directed by Steven S. DeKnight, who’s best known for his work on Marvel’s Daredevil and Starz’s Spartacus. Plot details are being kept under lock and key, but we know that Boyega will be playing the son of Stacker Pentecost (played by Idris Elba), who sacrificed himself in the first installment.
Pacific Rim: Maelstrom opens in theaters on February 23, 2018.
