Patty Jenkins On Whether She’d Direct A ‘Star Wars’ Movie

Patty Jenkins Star WarsThe success of Wonder Woman has brought a bigger spotlight onto the issue of having more female filmmakers direct major blockbusters. Thanks to Patty Jenkins, not only will her name have more of an influence on the industry, but hopefully the influence she already has on fellow female directors will bring more opportunities.

Along with the DC Extended Universe, one of the most well-known cinematic franchises is Star Wars. Ever since George Lucas sold LucasFilm to Disney, Kathleen Kennedy has served as president of the company. Ever since Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Kennedy has made a statement with promoting more strong female characters at the forefront.

Although Star Wars has been 2/2 so far on their new female heroes, Kennedy has voiced hopes in having a woman direct a Star Wars film in the near future. Kennedy is not the only figure involved with Star Wars who has voiced a desire for a female filmmaker to work within this galaxy. The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams expressed enthusiasm at the idea, even suggesting Selma and A Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVernay for the job.

Ever since Wonder Woman dominated the summer on both a critical and commercial standpoint, many Star Wars fans expressed that they would like to see Jenkins take her talents from Themyscira to the Star Wars universe in bringing either a new chapter in the Skywalker saga or a standalone film to the screen.

ScreenRant asked Jenkins about whether she would be interested in directing a Star Wars movie. Jenkins responded:

“It would depend on a project, y’know. I only want to make movies I understand and feel like I could do a good job at. There’s no world that I – I’m not that kind of filmmaker, I think it’s film by film [for me].”

Jenkins will be pretty busy for the time being. She is nearing a deal to direct Wonder Woman 2 that will also come with a well-deserved payday that will equal those of her male counterparts who also direct films at that scale.

Would you like to see Jenkins work within Star Wars? If she were to direct a film within that franchise, would you rather her work in the Skywalker saga or a standalone Star Wars Story? Sound off in the comments below, and be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news regarding Wonder Woman and the rest of the DC Extended Universe.

Wonder Woman will be available on digital HD on August 29. It will then be released on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on September 19.

10 Justice League Members Who Should Join The DCEU Next

Previous1 of 11

Justice League
The Justice League isn’t limited to the six members we saw in Zack Snyder’s film. The team has an expansive roster that features dozens of reserve characters ready to help the Justice League save the world on a moment’s notice.

With movies like the Green Lantern Corps and Shazam in the pipelines, it’s clear more heroes will be introduced to the DC Extended Universe soon. The Avengers featured a small team and it only grew as more characters were introduced into the Marvel movie universe. The Justice League is gonna need all the help it can get to fight Darkseid and keep the streets safe from lower-tier villains like Deathstroke and Joker.

Did I forget to include your favorite Justice League member? Well let me know in the comments why Fire and Firestorm are better choices.
