Director Patty Jenkins reveals she has an idea for both Wonder Woman 3 and a spin-off movie focusing on the Amazonians.

Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins revealed she has a plan for a third movie as well as a spin-off adventure starring the Amazonians. The director was speaking to Total Film when she was asked about her DC plans going forward after the Wonder Woman sequel. Jenkins explained that she doesn’t want to fully focus on her idea for Wonder Woman 3 until Diana Price’s latest adventure finally arrives in theaters, but she has an idea where the series could go.

“I’m not going to nail down a fresh thought about it until this movie comes out, because I kind of want to give myself a palette cleanser, and be fresh of mind. But yeah, there’s an arc that I have in mind for the first movie, and then the second movie, and then the Amazon movie, and then the third movie.”

When asked about if she’d direct the spin-off focusing on the Amazonians, the director revealed that she’s hoping not to be the one behind the camera. Jenkins explained that she worked on the film with Geoff Johns and they successfully pitched it, also explaining that she’ll happily produce the Amazonians spin-off rather than direct it.

“I’m not going to direct it, hopefully. I’m going to try really hard not to. It’s not going to be easy. But Geoff Johns and I came up with the story, and we sold the pitch, and we’re going to get it going. I’ll produce it, for sure.”

The film is one of the many projects affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Originally scheduled to open in theaters in early June, Warner Bros. opted to push the release date to mid-August in hopes that the crisis will have abated by then and movie theaters, which have been forced to shut down indefinitely, can re-open their doors.

Full details on the Wonder Woman 1984 plot are being kept under wraps, but the film is said to follow Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince as she comes into conflict with a formidable new adversary named Cheetah and businessman Maxwell Lord.

Directed by Patty Jenkins from a script she co-wrote with David Callaham and a treatment she developed with Geoff Johns, the film stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, Natasha Rothwell, Ravi Patel, Gabriella Wilde, Connie Nielson, and Robin Wright.

Wonder Woman 1984 is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on August 14, 2020.
