Collider’s Jon Schnepp has provided an update regarding the rumor that Tom Holland would be making an appearance as Spider-Man in Sony’s upcoming Venom film starring Tom Hardy.
While Venom remains as a standalone Spider-Man spinoff, separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially, Schnepp revealed yesterday that Spider-Man would be in the new Venom film, however, on today’s episode of Collider Heroes, the host clarified that it’s not Spider-Man who will appear in the film, but Peter Parker himself instead:
“Tom Holland was on set filming scenes on Venom for at least two days as Peter Parker. Okay, so I’m not saying Spider-Man is in the film. When I say Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is in the film, I’m saying Peter Parker is in the film.”
Plot details remain under wraps but the film features Hardy in the starring role of the reporter-turned-Spider-Man nemesis, Eddie Brock. The film has been confirmed to be an origin story of sorts for Venom with Carnage featured as the antagonist as the film takes influence from the Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes comic book runs.
Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is helming the project from a script by Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji), Jeff Pinkner (The Dark Tower) and Kelly Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey). Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Amy Pascal are producing. The film also stars Michelle Williams, Scott Haze, Jenny Slate, and Riz Ahmed with Woody Harrelson in talks to join the cast as well.
Venom is currently slated to hit theaters on October 5, 2018. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Venom as we learn it.
