Following the tragic loss of Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher, a number of moving tributes to the late actress have been made from her fans and colleagues. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has found a petition urging Disney to make Leia an official Disney Princess.
The petition from Change.Org was started by Cody Christensen and states:
After the tragic lose of Carrie Fisher, we feel that it is only fitting for Disney to do away with the rule that an official Disney princess must be animated and make Leia a full-fledged princess. This would be a wonderful way to remember Carrie and a welcoming to one of Disney’s new properties that is beloved by millions.
Addressed to Disney CEO Bob Iger, the petition continues to read as follows:
What we are asking is that the Walt Disney Corporation hold a full ceremony inducting Leia as the newest Disney princess as well as a special service in memory of Carrie Fisher.
As of now the petition has over 40, 000. signatures.
Carrie Fisher passed away on December 27, 2016 from cardiac arrest. Her mother, actress Debbie Reynolds, passed away the following night after being rushed to hospital after suffering a stroke.
Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds will be laid to rest in a joint funeral and will be buried together at Forest-Lawn Hollywood Hills.
Carrie Fisher will reprise her iconic role as Princess/General Leia in Star Wars: Episode VIII, which will be released in theaters on December 15, 2017.
