‘Power Rangers’ Film Starts Viral Marketing With Website For ‘The Roar’

Lionsgate started its viral marketing campaign for its upcoming Saban’s Power Rangers reboot by releasing a website for The Roar, a fictional newspaper for Angel Grove High School. Yes, Angel Grove High School as in the high school the members of the Power Rangers attend in the franchise’s universe.

The site only has a total of five posts for us to read, like and reblog through Tumblr, but we can only assume they intend to release more posts and grow the site as we get closer to “Power Rangers’” March 2017 release. The five posts include “Student Spotlight: Jason Scott,” “New Student Spotlight,” “Share Your Fall Fashions,” “The Roar You Know” and a “Letter from the Editor.”

The two most interesting ones are the “New Student Spotlight” and “The Roar You Know: Cheer Royalty Dethroned,” because they feature two of the five power rangers. “New Student Spotlight,” introduces the school, and us, to Trini, the Yellow Ranger:

“This week we want to spotlight Trini, who is quite familiar with being the “new girl”! She has relocated to new schools before, and is no stranger to a classroom full of fresh faces.”

“The Roar You Know” puts the spotlight on Kimberly Hart, the Pink Ranger, who, according to the post, has put away her regularly donned cheerleader uniform:

“Our sources claim Kimberly has been a tad moody for quite some time and we find it strange that her long-term boyfriend Ty Fleming has stopped walking her from class to class.

Lovers’ quarrel, perhaps? Where is lover boy, and why is he no longer by her side since the drama started to unravel?”

Power Rangers, directed by Dean Israelite, is slated for a March 24, 2017 release:

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the very foe being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.
