This scene is really, truly bizarre. While there are a lot of weird moments in this freshman program, this is one that really throws you for a loop. “Why are they show all of this to us again?” you need to ask yourself. “Why are they showing it again, and again, and again?!” you’ll also ask yourself. But that confusion only makes it better, ultimately. As we live through The Cowboy’s confused, miserable experience, we’re, too, put through the confusion, the heartbreak and the agony he must live with on a continuous, never-ending loop. And at least we get a break. It really sets the scene for what’s now unquestionably one of the show’s best and most badass characters to date.
