‘The Punisher’ Release Reportedly Delayed

Punisher PosterThe release of Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series The Punisher may be getting pushed back.

After this past Sunday’s tragic events in Las Vegas, Nevada, Marvel opted to cancel the panel for The Punisher at New York Comic-Con. The panel was originally set to feature the cast including Jon Bernthal for a Q&A and to present an exclusive look at the new series along with showrunner Steve Lightfoot, and executive producers Jim Chory and Jeph Loeb.

Rather than announce the series’ release date, Marvel has instead teased fans with the series’ debut, keeping its release date a mystery in the marketing which has been ramping up. According to Newsday’s Verne Gay, Netflix was planning a surprise launch of the series this month but this has not yet been officially confirmed. A spokeswoman for Netflix explained that “We never announced a premiere date and have not yet.”

The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal, Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Jason R. Moore, Daniel Webber, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman, Michael Nathanson, with Daredevil‘s Deborah Ann Woll returning as Karen Page. Here’s the official synopsis:

After exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone.

Marvel’s The Punisher is expected to hit Netflix this fall.

Punisher
Now that the Punisher trailer has hit the general audience, it’s time for fans to read up on the character before it’s too late. Whether you want to put him in jail or let him keep working, there’s no denying that he has taken down deadly criminals who put innocent lives in danger.

The Punisher has been a part of the Marvel Universe since 1974 and he has quite a few amazing stories to choose from. Sometimes he’s left alone in his own corner of the Marvel Universe, and sometimes he’s a fully integrated member of the Avengers. No matter where he is or who he is interacting with, the Punisher always means business.

of course they’d delay this, I’m done waiting, I’ll see the show next summer.

  • David Silcox

I bet at the end of the panel they were going to announce that the show would be up at midnight

Everyone “reporting” this story is referring to Verne Gay’s tweet. In the actual Newsday article, Verne still never cites any source. This sounds like pure speculation that has been picked up and run with. I still highly doubt there was ever any intention of dropping the series this weekend. I still think the likely date will be November 10th.

Also, the publication that Verne Gay works for, Newsday, is a tabloid. If any of this information were reliable it would have been reported by a legitimate source.
