7 Punisher Stories You Need To Read Before Marvel’s Netflix Series

7. Amazing Spider-Man #129 (1974)

While Amazing Spider-Man 129 may have a relatively simple story, it also happens to be the Punisher’s first appearance. Introduced as a vigilante who loves death, the Punisher was hired by the Jackal to kill Spider-Man. Unbeknownst to the Punisher, Spider-Man is a hero with abilities and not just some common street-thug like he was led to believe.

He eventually turns against his employer after he realizes that he had been manipulating him. Jackal even murdered the Mechanic, Punisher’s go-to guy for resupplying on ammo, and tried framing Spider-Man for the crime. While Frank Castle’s family doesn’t make an appearance, the issue ends with him vowing revenge due to the loss of a close friend. No matter what happens to the character, he will always be someone extremely driven by a perverse sense of justice driven by revenge.

I read three of those. I’m pretty much caught up on the antics of Frank Castle.
