Rachel Weisz Doesn’t Believe There Should Be A Female James Bond

James Bond Rachel WeiszDaniel Craig has been portraying James Bond for 12 years now, and it’s only a matter of time before the search for a replacement begins. Many fans think the producers should go a new route with the iconic character, making Bond either a person of color or a woman. One person who doesn’t believe Bond should become a woman is Craig’s own wife, actress Rachel Weisz.

In an interview with The Telegraph, the Oscar-winning actress was asked about the future of 007, especially as her husband winds down in the role, and if she believes the famous spy could become a woman:

“[Ian Fleming] devoted an awful lot of time to writing this particular character, who is particularly male and relates in a particular way to women. Why not create your own story rather than jumping on to the shoulders and being compared to all those other male predecessors? Women are really fascinating and interesting and should get their own stories.”

It’s certainly a slippery slope for fans when it comes to changing the gender of a famous character, as evidenced by the divided reaction to the new female Doctor Who. Weisz has a great point that women deserve to get their own stories, but one could also argue, however, that swapping the gender of James Bond would do more to promote gender equality than any original story could.

What do you think of Weisz’s comments? Do you agree, or would you like to see a lady James Bond in the future? Let us know in the comments!

Zatanna Zatara DC ComicsZatanna Zatara is one of the most iconic women in DC Comics. A superhero with a defining costume who works as a stage magician to cover the fact that she’s as real sorceresses, Zatanna is a character fans have wanted to see on the big screen for some time now, and that may be happening sooner then some would expect. Justice League Dark has been in the works for quite some time now, and the film seems to be a high priority for Warner Bros. and DC. Zatanna is a founding member of the team so it makes sense she would appear in the film.

The character should be a high priority for Warner Bros. and DC as she could not only appear in Justice League Dark, but also the main Justice League series. In the comics, Zatanna has ties to Batman, so that could build on a previously existing relationship. Introducing her also provides the chance to add more women to the Justice League roster. She could be the crossover character that unites the two different franchises in the DC Films slate.

Casting Zatanna involves looking at many different alternatives and we found the ten best actresses working today to bring her to life. Hit Next to get started!

Explain me, how changing the gender of a stablished character will do more than create a new and interesting spy women who can rival in interest and charming to the old 007, how??? I think woman deserve the chance to create their own mythos.

Because it would be straight up terrible, look at any recent example and its almost always terrible or lame, has nothing to do with women. Characters are created a certain way, and cant work any other. Its just the way good writing works, once you start changing crap, instead of coming up with something original, Your SHAMLESSLY rehashing ideas to its lowest form, changing anything for no reason, and hurting the fan base.

I was watching bond the other day, and theres no freakin way he would work as a chick, it would just be horrible. Somethings look better on paper or in your head, than real life, bond fans are all older or completely understand his character, why hes a womanizer but respects them, why he is the character he is and why hes so badass for it. Good writing 101 you create someone new, iee bucky cap, and you have them play a similar role.

God see red sparrow, that’s your female bond. It exists. read a black widow comic, its the same damn thing.

Maybe I dont explaine myself very well Mister!!! I said, no more gender swapping, I want new and fresh female characters that can rivalize with the ones we have today, like Furiosa, or Black Widow that is my second favorite MCU character!!!

  • Debbie Gardiner

I would rather not. Gender swapping is one of the biggest problems in Hollywood at the moment and there are HEAPS of awesome female lead novels and comic books that deserve a chance on the big screen far more. Tara Moss’ Makedde Vanderwall Series and Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series would be awesome as movies.
