Rian Johnson Confirms Classic ‘Star Wars’ Easter Egg

Fans who have seen Star Wars: The Last Jedi might have thought an iconic Star Wars tradition was left out of the latest installment, but fear not. Director Rian Johnson has confirmed it was cleverly hidden in the film.

The easter egg in question was the line “I have a bad feeling about this.” The line has been said in every Star Wars film to date, but you might not have heard it spoken in the latest entry. That would be because it isn’t spoken so much as beeped.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Rian Johnson confirmed that droid BB-8 had the distinct honor of uttering the phrase in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. When asked if BB-8 was the one who beeped it in the opening bombing scene, he said:

“Yes! Good catch!”

Johnson noted that the response to the iconic phrase was changed a bit in the final film, which would have made it obvious that BB-8 had said it:

“It seemed like a fun character to deliver that line. I think originally I had Poe respond, ‘Oh, I got a good feeling about it. Keep your chin up.’ And then I made it a little less explicit just to make it more fun.”

“In Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.”

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, the film stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern and Benicio del Toro.
