The Riverdale comic book exists in the same universe as the CW series and could perhaps be teasing Josie McCoy and Reggie Mantle becoming an item in season two.
Recently, Archie Comics shared a photo of Josie, played by Ashleigh Murray, and Reggie, played by Charles Melton, on the set of Riverdale’s second season. Then, an email was sent out to those on the Archie Comics mailing list asking: “Will Josie and Reggie (now played by Charles Melton) be a power couple in Season 2? Or are they simply up to no good?”
Archie Comics then released a teaser for the upcoming Riverdale #5, which you can read below.
“Set in the same universe as the hit CW series, this issue gives us a peek into what makes Riverdale High hot-shots Reggie Mantle and Josie McCoy tick. Reggie’s used to getting what he wants, and sets his romantic sights on the lead singer of the Pussycats. But when Josie turns him down, just how far will Reggie go to convince her he’s worth an audition?”
The conclusion for this is that since this particular comic and the TV show exist in the same universe and essentially follow the same canon, that Josie and Reggie could be getting together in the second season. This would be a step up to the way both characters were treated in the first season. Josie, as part of the singing group Josie and the Pussycats, barely appeared in season two and her storyline was never as fleshed out as any of the other main characters. As a series regular, this was unacceptable, so I hope they do right by her in the show’s second season.
Having her and Reggie together probably means more screen time and their dynamic could prove to be very interesting in the coming season if this turns out to be true.
Riverdale returns to the CW in a new time at 8/7c on Wednesday, October 11.
