Fans of the Star Wars franchise in the United Kingdom will be delighted to hear that the upcoming first installment of Star Wars anthology films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is set to hit UK cinemas before being released in the United States, as confirmed by the Star Wars UK official Twitter earlier today.

That’s right, the United Kindom is all set to get the film on December 15th, a day before the United States release on December 16th.
It might seem a little odd for a for a Star Wars film to open in the UK first, however, it happens more than you might think. For example, fans of Marvel Studios, which is coincidentally also a Disney-owned property, might have noticed in recent years that most of their films tend to follow this model, with the United States releases happening a day or two after the UK release. Also, to use a comparison even more relevant to Rogue One, fans of the Star Wars franchise itself might have noticed this last year with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which also hit the big screen a day earlier in the United Kingdom than in the United States.
Of course, whether you’re in the UK or not, you can get excited for this year’s adventure in the Star Wars world by watching the final trailer here.
Starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Genevieve O’Reilly, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story blasts into UK cinemas December 15th, and then hits the big screen in the United States on December 16th.
