The release date for ‘Rogue One’ is nearing closer, meaning that the studio is ramping up the anticipation by releasing more international trailers. The latest look at the film is an alternate cut of the previous international trailer and showcases a few short clips of new footage. One piece of which pays homage to a scene from ‘The Expendables.’
We’re given a longer look at the scene featuring Donnie Yen’s character (Chirrut Imwe) fighting off a group of Stormtroopers. Malbus, played by Jiang Wen also joins the fight, shooting at his enemies and narrowly missing his ally during the conflict. Chirrut exclaims “You almost shot me.” to which Malbus wittily replies, “You’re welcome.”
This is heavily similar to a scene from the first film in ‘The Expendables’ series. Jason Statham shares a moment with Sylvester Stallone’s character that can be compared with the scene from ‘Rogue One’. It features in the trailer for the film at the 2.22 minute mark. “Are you crazy? you could have killed me,” to which Stallone replies, “You’re welcome!”
Whether it’s an intentional reference to the 2010 action flick or not, it still makes for a humorous moment. It also shows that whilst ‘Rogue One’ has a grittier tone to it than previous ‘Star Wars’ films, it won’t shy away from using witty one liners.
‘Rogue One’ flies into theaters on December 16th.
