We recently found out that Warner Bros. would be moving forward with their long-delayed Justice League Dark adaptation with Scott Rudin producing the project, alongside Guillermo del Toro, who was initially set to direct the ensemble film but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with the production of Pacifim Rim 2, which is currently stuck in development hell. Last we heard, Rudin was hard at work trying to get a new director on board and making touch-ups to the film’s script in order to start filming sometime in 2016, but it appears that we finally have some movement on the film!
A while back, Del Toro revealed that his version of the team would consist of Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, Etrigan The Demon, and of course Constantine. It now appears that Warner Bros. may have found an actor to play the latter, as Latino-Review reports that True Detective star Colin Farrell is the frontrunner for the role of the John Constantine in the film. If the report is true and he does indeed sign on, Farrell will be the third actor to portray the character, following in the footsteps of Matt Ryan and Keanu Reeves.
The report reveals that the studio has also approached Ewan McGregor to play the Hellblazer, but it appears that Farrell is the frontrunner at this point. However, there’s still a chance that we might see both actors in the movie as the site claims that one of the two could play Jason Blood instead of Constantine. As for Swamp Thing, things are looking like Ron Perlman may be playing the part. He was actually Del Toro’s pick for the role back when he was set to direct the project.
That’s not all though, as it looks like Madame Xanadu, a character from the New 52 comics might also maker her cinematic debut in the movie. Monica Bellucci is said to be the the top choice to play the character. The studio is also looking for a “comedic presence” for Deadman and a hispanic/black actress for Zatanna.
