RUMOR: ‘White Girl’ Director Elizabeth Wood A Contender To Helm ‘Captain Marvel’?

Recently it was reported that indie director Emily Carmichael may have met with Marvel Studios regarding helming their upcoming Captain Marvel film and we may now have another potential name to throw into the mix. We Got This Covered is reporting that according to their sources, director Elizabeth Wood had a meeting with Marvel and might be in the running to direct the highly-anticipated Phase Three release.

According to the sites sources a “private meeting was held last week between Marvel representatives and independent filmmaker Elizabeth Wood in order to discuss potential directorial duties”. While you may not be familiar with Wood, her debut feature White Girl received quite a bit of acclaim upon screening at Sundance as well as receiving the Grand Jury Prize nomination and a seven-figure digital distribution deal with Netflix.

If the director does indeed land the gig, it wouldn’t be too big of a surprise as Marvel Studios has recently leaned towards indie directors with “heat” around for their upcoming films such as Jon Watts, Taika Waititi & Ryan Coogler. With a few rumored names floating around at the moment, it looks like Marvel Studios is close to locking in a director for Captain Marvel soon.
