RUMOR: New ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ Female Lead Role Contender Emerges

While we await for the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer to be released, an interesting rumor has made its way online about Rian Johnson’s Star Was: Episode VIII, which is currently filming in Ireland.

Last month we found out that three actresses were in contention for the female lead role in Episode VIII. Those actresses were Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl star Olivia Cooke, who recently landed a role in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, thus taking herself out of the running for the role.

According to Latino-Review, there was a fourth actress that didn’t make it to that list. British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw, known for her roles in the critically aclaimed films Belle and Beyond the Lights, is also in the running for the gig. Apparently there are two female lead roles in the movie, and they both share the same shortlist, so expect to see more than one of the actresses listed above in the movie.

As of right now, the only confirmed actor for the movie is Benicio Del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy), who is supposedly playing the villain.
