While it’s been a little while since we’ve seen Samuel L. Jackson’s Col. Nick Fury in action in the MCU, a recent report suggests the Avengers orchestrator might be co-starring in an upcoming standalone Marvel pic.
Christopher Marc at Omega Underground is reporting that Jackson will co-star with Brie Larson in Captain Marvel, which he says will begin production in Atlanta in January 2018.
While nothing is confirmed, Marc notes that Larson and Jackson have worked together on two films – March’s Kong: Skull Island and the upcoming Unicorn Store (Larson’s directorial debut), and both Cage and Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel’s alter ego) both have history with the military.
Jackson also reportedly commented on the possibility of Fury appearing in the Captain Marvel film a few months prior to this report.
Marvel could see this film as a way to get Fury and Jackson back on the screen in a larger role, though the actor is slated to appear in the two-part Avengers finale slated for May 2018 and May 2019.
So, if this rumor holds true and Marvel confirms the report, it looks like Nick Fury fans could have plenty of the no-nonsense colonel coming to them on the horizon. Though, it would take a contract extension, as Marc notes Jackson’s time with Marvel runs up after the 2019 Avengers film.
Captain Marvel is set for a March 8, 2019, release with Anna Bolden and Ryan Fleck (It’s Kind of a Funny Story) behind the camera. Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Oscar nominee Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) penned the screenplay.
