Ahead of his appearance in the CW Seed animated series Freedom Fighters: The Ray, the Ray will be introduced in the Arrowverse crossover “Crisis on Earth-X”. The character will be portrayed by Quantico‘s Russell Tovey.
As reported by TVLine, Tovey will be introduced in the Arrowverse crossover as the a member of the Freedom Fighters, a group that fights the oppression of a victorious Nazi Germany in the Earth-X reality. His character description is as follows:
“Raymond ‘Ray’ Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice — he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.”
Following the crossover, the Ray will have his own animated series, showing his struggles to fight off the Earth-X versions of Green Arrow, the Flash, and Supergirl (presumably set prior to the events of the Arrowverse crossover). Tovey will provide his voice to the character in that series as well. The character is also notable for being one of DC’s openly-gay superheroes, something that might set his characterization apart from other superheroes in the CW’s shared universe.
The 4-part “Crisis on Earth-X” crossover event is scheduled to begin with Supergirl and Arrow on Monday, November 27, and concludes with The Flash and Legends on Tuesday, November 28.
10 Heroes We Want To See In ‘Legends Of Tomorrow’ Season 3
**This article contains spoilers for the Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 finale.**
The Season 2 Finale for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (check out my review if you haven’t already) certainly left things off on an interesting note. But now’s the time to look to the future. It’s time to look ahead to Season 3.
Legends showrunner Phil Klemmer recently teased new characters appearing in Season 3. That’s what’s great about this type of show is the ability to regularly swap team members in and out. It helps keep the show fresh. As Klemmer puts it, in this show, “the only thing that has to remain is the Waverider.” The DC universe is packed with awesome characters that would be perfect for an appearance in Legends and this show provides the unique opportunity to introduce DC superheroes and villains from any place and any time. Whether it be the past, as was the case with recurring characters like Jonah Hex or the Justice Society of America, or the future, as we saw with Connor Hawke in Season 1, this show can make it work. So, we thought it would be fun to take a look at some of the characters that could possibly appear on Legends of Tomorrow Season 3.
First, though, a couple of disclaimers. Some of these characters are more likely to actually appear on the show than others, but all of them could work with a little creative writing. Some of these people might have appeared in the Arrowverse before, but not on Legends of Tomorrow (for the most part). Some might make more sense in a one-off appearance while some could work as potential new season-long team members. Finally, I didn’t include any of the characters that are already appearing in the DCEU films.
So, without further adieu, here are the 10 heroes we want to see in Legends of Tomorrow Season 3. Hit the next button below to begin!
