As we are only four short months away from Captain America: Civil War, we are bound to start hearing more from the brothers Joe and Anthony Russo on their plans and vision for the two-part Avengers: Infinity War saga set to debut in 2018 and conclude in 2019.

Well, it looks like we won’t be waiting too long after all, as the Russo brothers have commented on the concept of the Infinity War.

In an exclusive with ComicBook.com, the Russo brothers strongly hint at their plans ahead of their New Orleans WizardWorld appearance.

Asked if they’ve had any talks of including the Guardians of the Galaxy in Infinity War, Joe Russo responded:

“That is another one that we would have to reserve as a surprise, but we will say this: People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie. The concept of Infinity War is that the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you’ve ever seen, and we’re going to honor that concept.”

Regarding their approach to the more cosmic nature of Avengers: Infinity War as opposed to the grounded, gritty Winter Soldier and Civil War, Joe Russo said:

“Yeah, we certainly have. I sat in the theater and watched Empire Strikes Back seven times in a row when I was a kid. Yeah, we’re science fiction fans as well, Dungeons and Dragons. We collected all the books when we were kids. We had figurines. Anything that you could think of that has to do with fantasy or sci-fi or superheroes was in our universe. We’re just going to approach the cosmic side with the same fervor that we did the earthbound work we’ve been doing. We also are going to work really hard to bring a psychological realism. We obviously can’t bring a naturalism to it because it doesn’t really exist outside of science fiction, but we can bring that psychological realism to it, to the characters, and that’s going to be our focus.

Also, it’s going to be our focus to explore the cosmic side, applying the same rules that we like to apply to the last two films that we’ve done. It ends up being the rules of physics always apply or apply as much as we can get them to apply based on what we’re doing.”

While James Gunn hasn’t seemed too excited in the past about the Guardians teaming up with the Avengers, it sounds like the Russo brothers have a plan to unite the characters of the MCU.  Given Gunn’s success with Guardians of the Galaxy, and the working relationship he has with Marvel Studios, I’m sure the Russos will consult with Gunn should they include the Guardians in the Infinity War saga.  We will know how good the Russo brothers are at handling a large cast with a lot of characters when Captain America: Civil War comes out in May, but indications are they are more than up to the task, and I can’t wait!

What do you think about the Russo’s comments?  Think they can pull it all off?  Let us know!

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is scheduled for release on May 4, 2018 with Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 releasing a year later on May 3, 2019.  Of course, be sure to catch Captain America: Civil War when it hits theaters on May 6th, 2016.
