Earlier this year we reported that Fruitvale Station and Creed director Ryan Coogler was being pursued by Marvel Studios to direct the upcoming Black Panther film. We later heard from sources that the talks had cooled down. It seems that the success of Creed has sparked up things up again as BMD‘s Devin Faraci is now reporting that sources have confirmed to him that the director is back in negotiations to direct the 2018 release for Marvel Studios. The film, which will star Chadwick Boseman and be written by Joe Robert Cole, is currently set to hit theaters on February 16, 2018. UPDATE: It has now been confirmed by TheWrap, Variety & The Hollywood Reporter that Coogler is indeed in negotiations with Marvel to direct the film for the studio.
