Mace Windu himself, Samuel L. Jackson, believes the new cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens could use some more training in the fine art of wielding a lightsaber.
In an interview with “Popcorn with Peter Travers” via ABCNews.com for his current film The Hateful Eight, Jackson was asked if he had seen the new Star Wars film. While he wasn’t exactly effusive in his praise for the film, he says that it is “done in the spirit of the Star Wars films,” and “it’s adventuresome and exciting . . . in a way,” but notes that the new cast could use some more training on how to properly handle a lightsaber.
Check out a short clip of the interview.
While I think Mr. Jackson has a point in that the lightsaber battles were a little rudimentary in their skill, I think he misses the point that Finn and Rey are just coming into their own, and have not even begun their training in the ways of the Force. I expect that as this trilogy matures, so too will the cast’s skill with the lightsaber.
What do you think? Surprised by Samuel L. Jackson’s response? Let us know!
