Samuel L. Jackson still has high hopes for the MCU! The actor speaks on where he wants to take Nick Fury in future projects.
Samuel L. Jackson stands as one of the most tenured actors in the MCU, making his debut all the way back in the very first Iron Man film. Many assumed that the actor may have grown disillusioned with the role after the universally panned Secret Invasion. However, it seems he still has big aspirations for Nick Fury, including a long-awaited trip to Wakanda.
“All the Black people in the Marvel Universe were trying to figure out, ‘Why can’t we go to Wakanda?'” Jackson reflected during a recent chat with GQ. “Me, Don [Cheadle], Anthony Mackie… but they made it. They got to go fight. I still didn’t get there. I thought that about Civil War when the kids were fighting. The kids are fighting and I’m not gonna make them go to their rooms? How does that make sense?”
Samuel L. Jackson isn’t the only one hoping Nick Fury gets a trip to Wakanda. MCU fans have been calling for the crossover for years, with many believing Riri Williams’ involvement in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever could have been the tipping point for the decision. However, given Jackson still seems gung-ho about the role, there’s no telling what the future might hold.
Samuel L. Jackson Reflects On His MCU Journey
Nick Fury has become one of the strongest threads connecting the MCU, with Samuel L. Jackson appearing in almost every franchise the studio has to offer. However, it seems the actor didn’t realize quite how prevalent he would be in the universe when he first signed his contract, thinking that he might not live long enough to fulfill it.
“I knew I had a nine-picture deal. Kevin [Feige] said that: ‘We’re going to offer you a nine-picture deal.’ How long do you have to stay alive to make nine movies? It’s not the quickest process in the world.” Jackson explained. “I didn’t know they were going to make nine movies in like two and a half years. That’s kind of crazy! Oh shit, I’m using up my contracts. It worked out.”
No matter what people can say about the MCU, Marvel Studios did prove how efficient a studio can be with pumping out their films when the pedal truly hits the metal. While it’s unclear what the future holds for Nick Fury, it’s clear the Samuel L. Jackson isn’t done with the role quite yet.
