Gotham has over the course of its three seasons introduced several villains from Batman’s Rogues Gallery. One of them was Jonathan Crane, better known as the Scarecrow in the DC Universe and one of Batman’s greatest villains. A teenage version of Jonathan (Charlie Tahan) made his first appearance in Season 1 with his father Gerald Crane (Julian Sands) who ended up putting his son through the fear experiments that Gerald was working on.
The episode concluded with Jonathan pretty much having lost most of his sanity as the final scene with him featured the teenager hallucinate a scarecrow watching over him. While we haven’t seen Jonathan since then, it looks like he is making his return in Gotham Season 4. David Mazouz and Drew Powell, who plays Bruce Wayne and Butch Gilzean/Cyrus Gold respectively, recently appeared at Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in Nashville where they chatted about the fourth season.
During their panel, Mazouz revealed that Scarecrow will be showing up in Season 4, stating that “it’s on full blast”, which he is looking forward to. Powell added that it will definitely have a creepy vibe to it that he believes viewers will enjoy.
“MAZOUZ: Scarecrow comes back in Season 4. It’s on full blast, I’m really excited.
POWELL: It’s super creepy, too. you’re gonna love it.”
“Gotham’s origin story continues to unfold, and as the show enters its fourth season, the stakes will be higher than ever! With the Court of Owls decimated, the aftermath of the Tetch virus crippling the city, and every (surviving) villain in Gotham’s underworld jockeying for power, Jim Gordon and the GCPD will have their hands full. And that’s just the beginning! What threat does Ra’s al Ghul pose, and will Penguin regain his title as the King of Gotham? What new villains are in store for season four, and what does Bruce Wayne’s season finale reveal mean for Gotham City — and his ultimate destiny?”
Gotham Season 4 is set to premiere on Thursday, September 28 at 8/7c on FOX.
