The seventh season of AMC’s hit series The Walking Dead is well underway, and fans are already clamoring for how the showrunners plan to expand the lore of the world – particularly in introducing more elements from the comics for the hardcore fans to finally see onscreen. They’ve been doing a pretty stellar job in reflecting some of the incredible artwork found from the panels, particularly in the season premiere, and the majority of fans agree that Negan (portrayed terrifically by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is a force to be reckoned with.
With the next episodes on the way, many fans have been speculating that the show will incorporate the Whisperers. For those who are unaware, the Whisperers are a group of survivors who wear the skin of roamers to disguise themselves from the real ones.
Recently, ComicBook.com spoke with showrunner Scott Gimple about the season. When asked about whether or not we will be seeing the Whisperers make an appearance, Gimple had this to say:
If we’ve gotten this far without saying anything about them, I’d like the audience to discover this group when it’s on screen. I will say … I mean, it’s not the Whisperers. I will also say, though, that it’s not impossible that the Whisperers could come along or aspects of them could come along earlier than the timeline of the book, but certainly not this early.
Did Gimple hint that the Whisperers would indeed arrive earlier than expected on the series? Let’s hope so, because I am curious to see how they pull them off onscreen.
The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9/8c on AMC.
