Earlier on Saturday the day started off on a high note with Warner Bros.’ Panel that Fox had a lot to live up to. WB definitely had the upper hand when it came to spectacle, but FOX had some major highlights that fans were extremely excited to check out.
Chris Hardwick was once again the host of the presentation and the first film that was brought up was The Maze Runner The Scorch Trials.
A brand new trailer was shown followed by an introduction to several members of the cast as well as the director and the author of the book series that this is based on. They all got a chance to talk about their experiences working on the film followed by a clip of some of the new creatures in the film. This signaled the end of this segment and the beginning of the next one for Victor Frankenstein.
Victor Frankenstein was introduced with a new trailer from the film. The film is a unique take on the classic Frankenstein story. When the trailer ended James McAvoy, Daniel Radcliffe, and director Paul McGuigan were brought out to the stage. This was one of the most fun panels because there was a tangible companionship between the two leads, which led to a great amount of slightly crass humor, which had the audience engaged. The panel ended with another clip from the film showing off a creature being brought back to life.
The next film to be presented was that of the upcoming Fantastic 4. Another new trailer was used to introduce the panel and the entire cast including Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, and Toby Kebbell , the director Josh Trank, and writer Simon Kinsberg. They all got a chance to talk about the film for a brief period of time before they were already on to the next film.
A clip was shown without introduction of a man in a chair narrating before you realize that it’s Deadpool sitting on a chair talking directly to the audience. When the clip concluded Ryan Reynolds was on stage and fans cheered for him. This is when I realized how popular the Deadpool film has been.
Soon after Reynolds the other cast members joined him on stage including TJ Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, Ed Skrein, Gina Carano, and the director Tim Miller. They had a chance to talk about the film and how the fans are the reason why the film even got made. They even brought up how the test footage was leaked and the response from that was the main influence.
The Panel concluded on a high note by showing a brand new trailer that the audience adored and chanted “1 More Time” when it was done. The reaction was so strong that they played it again even though they weren’t supposed to. It was a high note to end this before they moved onto the final film.
Hugh Jackman was introduced to explain how this next Wolverine film would be his last time playing the role after a brief series highlight reel that showed his first audition for the role. Soon after Jackman made his statement, Bryan Singer was brought out to help introduce the new and returning cast members for X-Men Apocalypse. It was an impressive amount of actors who each got to say a little bit about their work on the film and how they felt playing their characters. When this had concluded an all-new trailer was released for the film, which continued to stick with the darker tone previously seen in the other X-Men films, which is to be expected. It even gave a brief glimpse at James McAvoy in the iconic Prof. X look including the baldhead. When it went back to Chris he wanted to get every Fox superhero together for a picture and when this happened there was a surprise of Stan Lee coming out to take the picture and soon after Channing Tatum, who will be playing Gambit, also joined in on the fun. This brought an end to a great presentation from Fox.
There were some definite highlights that made the event very memorable and the reaction of the crowd to the Deadpool trailer was one of the most animated I have seen the crowd at this year’s SDCC. It was an exciting experience for fans and I’m glad to have been a part of it.
