Shane Black Says ‘The Predator’ Will Not Take Place In The Suburbs

The Predator will be heading into production in February and The Nice Guys and Iron Man 3 director Shane Black has promised fans humor.

But don’t expect the film to be taking place in or around the suburbs, as was originally reported. So, be thankful that you won’t find “Predator lurking in rich, fancy swimming pools” because, let’s face it, that wouldn’t make for a fun movie.

Although Black is keeping a lot of the film’s details a secret, he has stated that The Predator won’t be a “typical sci-fi” film.

“I think the Predator movies have slightly veered from typical sci-fi in that there is a sort of thriller aspect to them. I think it should be scary, I think it should be funny, and I think ultimately it should be wondrous and about perceiving things that human beings very seldom get a chance to see… I don’t mean movie audiences I mean characters in the movie. I’m not saying the movie will be nothing anyone’s seen before.”

Boyd Holbrook is set to star in the film, with Olivia Munn also recently joining the cast. How the characters will encounter the predator is unknown, but Shane Black is nothing if not a competent director, so at least the film is in good hands.

I still think an urban setting could work. IMHO, “PREDATOR 2” was a good idea (NY instead of LA). Execution and story were the issue.
