Director David F. Sandberg has confirmed that Shazam will hit theatres in April 2019. The release date for the film was originally announced in 2014 along with many other DCEU properties, and while the schedule has shifted quite a bit, Shazam is still set to meet its expected release date.
A question on Reddit regarding Anabelle: Creation was posted, which led to Sandberg giving his take on the answer. He was later asked by a fan if Shazam was still set to release in 2019, which he confirmed as true.
“April 2019. It takes a long time to make vfx heavy movies,”
The film is currently in pre-production and is still in its casting phase. The film is expected to start filming in February of next year, so we can expect concrete casting information by the end of the year.
