Fan Adds Shazam! To ‘Batman v Superman’ Image And It’s Hilarious

Zachary Levi Shazam DC Superman BatmanOver the past weekend, fans were given a first official look at Zachary Levi in costume as the titular hero of Shazam! with an image that offered a hint of the DC film’s comedic tone. Now, a fan has used the promotional art to insert Billy Batson’s superhero alter-ego into a key scene from Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman.

Batman v Superman pit the eponymous heroes against each other in a film that many believe was unnecessarily dark with few moments of levity. Now, a fan artist has taken the official image of Zachary Levi’s Shazam! slurping on a beverage and placed him in between the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight as they prepare for their showdown for comedic effect. The image has caught the attention of Shazam! director David F. Sandberg, who stated that this particular image was favorite of the online fanart.

“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out.  In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard.  Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them!  Can he fly?  Does he have X-ray vision?  Can he shoot lightning out of his hands?  Can he skip his social studies test?  Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child.  But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Grace Fulton, Jack Dylan Grazer, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand and Mark Strong as Doctor Sivana.

Shazam! is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 5, 2019.

Shazam DC ComicsShazam may look like a Superman rip-off, but he’s so much more than that. Created way back in 1939, Captain Marvel (now referred to solely as Shazam) is an incredibly complex character. After a teenager named Billy Batson stumbles upon a Wizard called Shazam, his whole life changes. Granted magical powers, Billy transforms into a superhero but keeps his childish personality whenever he’s fighting evil.

Chosen to serve as a defender of justice for the Wizard, Billy is given a wide range of powers. Whenever Billy yells the wizard’s name, he transforms into the powerful Captain Marvel and rushes off to fight evil. A lot has changed for the character over his 77 year history, but he still has so much more room to grow! With Shazam! hitting theaters next year, the character’s popularity will start to grow and it’s likely he’ll receive a new comic book series soon, so you might as well start learning everything you can about the character now.
