Casting Calls Suggest Billy Batson’s Friends Will Appear In ‘Shazam!’

Shazam Director Pre-ProductionIt has been relatively quiet on the Shazam! front recently, but recent casting calls suggest things might be heating up soon.

That Hashtag Show found some casting calls that seem to suggest the production is looking to cast Billy Batson’s friends and the members of the Marvel family. Check the descriptions out below:

[DANIEL]11, Korean. Daniel is a smart kid, into video games and reading non-fiction. SUPPORTING

[CARLOS]15, Hispanic, overweight, with asthma. Carlos is very shy and sweet. SUPPORTING

[SUZY]8-10, African American. A sweet, bubbly girl with glasses and pigtails. SUPPORTING

[FRANK]11-13, Caucasian. A kid at the group home with “Billy”, who becomes his friend and confident. Sarcastic and funny. SUPPORTING

It looks like these kids will be rounding out the Marvel family, with four kid roles that have ties to Billy Batson. With production seemingly starting soon, it likely will not be long until these roles are cast and we also find out who will be playing Shazam/Batson themselves.

Details on the film’s plot are currently unknown, though most tellings of the comic book story depict Billy Batson as an orphan child who is granted the ability to become an adult hero with godlike powers by an ancient Wizard.

Shazam will be a New Line Cinema production that will be produced in conjunction with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. The title character has to be cast and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam will not appear in the film.

As of today, Shazam does not have a release date.

Obviously banking on the whole “kid crew” fad that we’ve seen recently on stranger things, IT, etc. Not mad at it, at least it would make sense with Billy Batson’s age and it wouldn’t feel forced into the story line.
