‘Shazam!’ Adds Cinematographer & Production Designer From ‘Annabelle: Creation’

ShazamOmega Underground reports that Shazam! director David F. Sandberg will be reteaming with Annabelle: Creation cinematographer Maxime Alexandre and production designer Jennifer Spence for the DC Comics adaptation.

With production on Shazam! scheduled to begin on February 5th in Toronto, Alexandre and Spence have joined the project after having previously collaborated with Sandberg on the successful Annebelle sequel. Both Alexandre and Spence’s previous credits include a number of horror films such as the 2018’s The Nun.

The outlet also reports that there is evidence to suggest that the film will be set in Philadelphia and that the villains could be the group of demons known as the Seven Deadly Sins.

Details on the film’s plot are currently unknown, though most tellings of the comic book story depict Billy Batson as an orphan child who is granted the ability to become an adult hero with godlike powers by an ancient Wizard.

Shazam will be a New Line Cinema production that will be produced in conjunction with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. The title character has yet to be cast and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam will not appear in the film.

As of today, Shazam does not have a release date.

Audiences have known that the Rock is playing Black Adam for years, but Shazam (a.k.a. Captain Marvel) still hasn’t been cast. Even though the movie has a director and is set to begin filming early next year, the title role is empty.

Plot details are still essentially non-existent except for the fact that Black Adam will not appear in this movie. Regardless, director David Sandberg, who just finished work on Annabelle: Creations, announced the start of pre-production at the end of August.

Rumors may be swirling online about one actor or another being up for the role, but as of now no one is the designated front runner. This role, which has huge potential to become a major franchise once the character is given a bigger spotlight, is still open for the taking.

With that said, hit Next to find out about 10 actors who should play Shazam!
