Shazam Director Pre-ProductionLast month, director David Sandberg confirmed he would be moving right into pre-production work on Shazam after his latest film titled Annabelle: Creation. Now, What’s Filming has revealed that principal photography on the DC film is scheduled to take place in Toronto, Ontario between February and May of 2018.

Dedicated to informing readers on the latest film and television productions filming in Canadian cities, What’s Filming currently lists Shazam as scheduled to film in Toronto from February 5 to May 4 of 2018. Last week, the working title for Shazam was revealed to be Franklin, a possible reference to Benjamin Franklin, who first proposed the kite experiment in 1752.

Details on the film’s plot are currently unknown, though most tellings of the comic book story depict Billy Batson as an orphan child who is granted the ability to become an adult hero with godlike powers by an ancient Wizard.

Shazam will be a New Line Cinema production that will be produced in conjunction with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. The title character has to be cast and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam will not appear in the film.

As of today, Shazam does not have a release date.

Audiences have known that the Rock is playing Black Adam for years, but Shazam (a.k.a. Captain Marvel) still hasn’t been cast. Even though the movie has a director and is set to begin filming early next year, the title role is empty.

Plot details are still essentially non-existent except for the fact that Black Adam will not appear in this movie. Regardless, director David Sandberg, who just finished work on Annabelle: Creations, announced the start of pre-production at the end of August.

Rumors may be swirling online about one actor or another being up for the role, but as of now no one is the designated front runner. This role, which has huge potential to become a major franchise once the character is given a bigger spotlight, is still open for the taking.
