As director David F. Sandberg continues to troll and tease fans throughout the development of Shazam, the production office for the film had a visit from the co-runner of the DC Extended Universe and co-chairman of DC Films himself, Geoff Johns.
Given Sandberg’s penchant for keeping fans updated frequently on the production of Shazam on his Instagram page with teases and snippets towards what to expect in the upcoming film, it’s safe to say that Sandberg has come a long way since day one of pre-production. However, it appears as though Johns had a message to convey to the director when he stopped by the office.

Details on the film’s plot are currently unknown, though most tellings of the comic book story depict Billy Batson as an orphan child who is granted the ability to become an adult hero with godlike powers by an ancient Wizard.
Shazam will be a New Line Cinema production that will be produced in conjunction with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. The title character has to be cast and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam will not appear in the film.
As of today, Shazam does not have a release date.
10 Actors Who Should Play Shazam
Audiences have known that the Rock is playing Black Adam for years, but Shazam (a.k.a. Captain Marvel) still hasn’t been cast. Even though the movie has a director and is set to begin filming early next year, the title role is empty.
Plot details are still essentially non-existent except for the fact that Black Adam will not appear in this movie. Regardless, director David Sandberg, who just finished work on Annabelle: Creations, announced the start of pre-production at the end of August.
Rumors may be swirling online about one actor or another being up for the role, but as of now no one is the designated front runner. This role, which has huge potential to become a major franchise once the character is given a bigger spotlight, is still open for the taking.
