A recently released photo from the upcoming DC film Shazam! featured a reference to 2013’s Man of Steel. Now, the director of Shazam! has given fans a closer look at the awesome Easter egg.
A new photo from Shazam! features young Billy Batson (Asher Angel) and Freddie (Jack Dylan Grazer) in front of an issue of TIME magazine. Eagle-eyed fans were able to catch that the magazine cover featured one of Zod’s terraforming machines from Man of Steel‘s climactic battle. Shazam! director David F. Sandberg gave fans a closer look at that magazine cover in a recent tweet. Check it out below.

Fans can now clearly see the magazine cover, which reads “AN ACT OF WAR?”, along with the caption: “As Metropolis lies in ruin, how shall the world respond? Inside an alien invasion.” Warner Bros. will be holding a Hall-H panel later this week at San Diego Comic-Con, where fans are expected to get more than just some photos from the movie. The studio is expected to give fans a first look at footage from Shazam! as well as Aquaman.
Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Grace Fulton, Jack Dylan Grazer, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand and Mark Strong as Doctor Sivana. Here’s the official synopsis:
“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”
Shazam! hits theaters on April 5, 2019.
