Shia LaBeouf Explains His ‘Hang-Up’ With The ‘Transformers’ Films

Transformers Shia LaBeoufWhile the live-action Transformers films may have been box office juggernauts, critics and many movie-goers have lambasted the franchise since the first film was released in 2007. In fact, one the film’s detractors is the lead star of the first three films, Shia LaBeouf, who explained his “hang-up” with the Transformers series during an interview with Esquire.

LaBeouf explained that he had difficulty finding the merit in his work on the Transformers films:

“My hang-up with those films was that they felt irrelevant. They felt dated as fuck… You come up on these stories about Easy Rider and Raging Bull and De Niro and Scorsese and Hopper, and you find value in what they do. Meanwhile, you’re chasing energon crystals. It’s very hard to keep doing what you’re doing when you feel like it’s the antithesis of your purpose on this planet.”

The Transformers franchise continues this year with a prequel/spin-off centered on Bumblebee.

“On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken.  When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.”

Directed by Travis Knight, the film stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr. Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos, and Gracie Dzienny.

Bumblebee: The Movie will be released in theaters on December 21, 2018.

Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America have been the pillars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its inception, as their individual films have guided lead audiences into each Avengers film. But with the next two Avengers film it is safe to say the curtain will set for those three. That means the Avengers as audiences know them will change dramatically. This means the team will need some new members, ones that will make a big impression to fill the shoes of their predecessors.

While the status of other founding members like the Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye and more up in the air right now, part of the fun in the Avengers comics is the ever-changing roster. The latest roster for the Avengers needs to make a statement. This isn’t the same old Avengers, this is the beginning of a new chapter. Some characters should be upgraded, others will take center stage as the new tentpole franchises, and the Avengers will be new.

Buddy, your purpose on this planet is to f*ck off.

I disliked the transformer movies; they did not give me what I wanted, but that guy was and still is truly awful.

Robert DeNiro did The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Dennis Hopper was in Super Mario Bros. How many people “find value” in those movies? Maybe Shia LeBeouf should dial down the self-importance and just try to deliver the best performance possible and appreciate what he gets to do for a living.
