The following contains spoilers for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D season three.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D latest season took the show in a very different, inhumans inspired direction and season four is shaping up to take on a much darker and intense tone. For Chloe Bennet’s character, Daisy Johnson, the events of season three are something she cannot escape.

The finale episode left Johnson on the run after the sudden death of her boyfriend Lincoln Campbell. This combine with what took place during Captain America: Civil War, has left Johnson in a dark place emotionally, explained Bennet during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“The two people who know she did that are both dead, so no one else knows. There must be a moment coming up in the next season where she reveals that. I think she feels like she can’t get close to people because wherever she goes, death follows. That hit home with her, especially this time.”

She also commented on how the death of Lincoln has changed her character.

“Makes her more ruthless, being so close to what she thought was her own death. And then it happening in one of the worst scenarios she could ever think of, which is the person that she loved doing it for her, I think it changes her in a way where she probably will face life with even more ruthlessness.”
