‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Had Biggest Memorial Day Opening Since 2014

Solo Star Wars IMAX
It isn’t all gloom and doom when it comes to the opening weekend for the latest Star Wars film. Despite coming in below projections, Solo: A Star Wars Story had the biggest opening for a film during the Memorial Holiday weekend since 2014. Current estimates have Solo looking at an estimated $103 million domestic, while some believe it could even hit $107 million come tomorrow morning.

While this is the smallest opening for any of the recent Star Wars films, it’s the biggest box office opening during the Memorial Weekend since X-Men: Days Of Future Past debuted to $110 million in 2014. Over the last few years, such films as X-Men: Apocalypse, Alice Through The Looking Glass, Tomorrowland, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Baywatch have debuted to disappointing numbers as well.

Might the lower opening weekend simply be a matter of timing? Could we see Solo: A Star Wars Story see an uptick at the domestic box office over the next few weeks? Be sure to stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for any further updates.

Directed by Ron Howard from a script written by Lawrence Kasdan and son Jon Kasdan, Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, Paul Bettany and Ian Kenny.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is in theaters now.
