Solo: A Star Wars Story writers Lawrence and Jonathan Kasdan shared more details on Han’s backstory and the film’s villain, Enfys Nest, during an interview on The Star Wars Show.
Solo: A Star Wars Story will follow one of the titular character’s early adventures years before audiences were introduced to the smuggler in the first film of the franchise. Co-writer Jonathan Kasdan discussed how they approached Han’s backstory and what they wanted to explore with the character:
“We talked about Han growing up in an urban environment. He really grew up on the streets where he had to learn to be quick, where he had to sort of survive, and we wanted him thrust into a sort of makeshift family.”
Lawrence Kasdan added that Qi’ra and Han share a rough background.
Jonathan Kasdan also added that in order to understand the villain, Enfys Nest, fans must understand Woody Harrelson’s Tobias Beckett:
“[He] is sort of highly trained, very lethal criminal. He’s a real pro, who’s into big jobs, and he runds a crew. But one of their competitors is a sort of more pirate-like gang and the leader of that gang is Enfys Nest.”

5 Things To Look Forward To In ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’
Solo: A Star Wars Story is set to hit theaters later this year and will certainly be a departure for the franchise. Similar to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Solo is going to be a prequel on the adventures of the smuggler originally played by Harrison Ford. Han Solo is one of the most memorable and iconic characters in the franchise whose origins we have yet to see fleshed out beyond knowing he is a smuggler. There’s a lot of fascinating potential here.
This is a film that seemingly isn’t that important for the franchise, but it easily could be. It could do a lot of things for the Star Wars canon and there is a lot to look forward to in this one. While it’s not inherently the most anticipated film in the franchise there are still a lot of things that will be exciting to see unfold on the big screen.
