Lucasfilm Releases First ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Trailer

Han Solo Star WarsAfter the first footage debuted in the Super Bowl spot last night, Lucasfilm has now released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Han Solo spin-off movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The second Star Wars spin-off dials back the clock to chronicle a young Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) from the years of 18-24 in his life as the young Smuggler meets Chewbacca and also acquires the Millennium Falcon, which is owned by Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) in the film.

Ron Howard has directed Solo: A Star Wars Story from a script written by Lawrence Kasdan and son Jon Kasdan. The spin-off has been scored by How to Train Your Dragon composer John Powell with the main theme provided by Star Wars veteran John Williams. The film stars Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo along with Joonas Suotomo as Chewbacca and Donald Glover as the young Lando Calrissian. The cast also includes Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Paul Bettany, and Ian Kenny. Here’s the official synopsis:

Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

Solo A Star Wars StorySolo: A Star Wars Story is set to hit theaters later this year and will certainly be a departure for the franchise. Similar to Rogue One: A Star Wars StorySolo is going to be a prequel on the adventures of the smuggler originally played by Harrison Ford. Han Solo is one of the most memorable and iconic characters in the franchise whose origins we have yet to see fleshed out beyond knowing he is a smuggler. There’s a lot of fascinating potential here.

This is a film that seemingly isn’t that important for the franchise, but it easily could be. It could do a lot of things for the Star Wars canon and there is a lot to look forward to in this one. While it’s not inherently the most anticipated film in the franchise there are still a lot of things that will be exciting to see unfold on the big screen.
