Warning: Major Spoilers For The Walking Dead season 7 finale ahead!
The seventh season finale of The Walking Dead concluded with a victory for the Alexandrian’s in a battle that will later unfold into an all-out war. However, the triumph did not come without causalities as Sasha Williams sacrificed herself by swallowing a poisonous pill in order to avoid being used as a weapon against her friends. While the death was emotional, it was hardly a surprise to fans who were already predicting Sasha’s demise after Sonequa Martin-Green landed a role on the CBS All Access series Star Trek: Discovery. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Martin-Green revealed that her fate on The Walking Dead was actually unrelated to her new Star Trek job as Sasha’s future had been determined before she landed the role.
Martin-Green revealed that the plan for Sasha’s fate had already been in the works before she was cast in Star Trek.
“It couldn’t have worked out more perfectly, because what was happening on Walking Dead was already underway. It was the path. It was definitely in place. And then as we were going into the very end of the season, the very end of our shoot for the season — that’s when the opportunity for Star Trek came. And so I know some people might think that I left Walking Dead to do Star Trek, but it did not happen that way. It was after Walking Dead was already ending that the opportunity for Star Trek came.”
Martin-Green expressed her excitement over the Star Trek role.
“I didn’t know what I was going to be doing next. And when Star Trek came I thought, Oh my goodness! This is…unspeakable! Like, what?? It’s going from such a goliath that reaches so many people in such a profound way, to a legacy. So basically going from legacy to legacy. Because Star Trek has definitely been printed in the hearts of so many people and has been since the ‘60s, obviously. To go from such a favorite show, to arguably the most favorite show of all time, is [laughs] I still think I’m catching my breath.”
While Sasha was certainly one of the most formidable characters on The Walking Dead, many are excited to see Sonequa Martin-Green bring that energy and talent to her role on Star Trek: Discovery.

10 Independent Comics Perfect For TV
I really don’t understand why so many great, independent comics are being ignored by Hollywood executives.
Marvel and DC dominated television in 2016 with the Arrowverse bringing the Legends of Tomorrow into the mix and Netflix adding both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage to their expanding list of original titles. Comic book films also did well in the box office last year, even if the critics weren’t always too happy, so it seems from an investment perspective comic book properties are still a good bet. Independent comics are full of characters and concepts that have the potential to become the next big thing. Fortunately, with Valiant’s recent announcement of an online Ninjak series and FX finally naming a show runner for their Y:The Last Man adaptation, it seems comic fans have a lot to look forward to in the years ahead.
