Sony Pictures Chief Tony Vinciquerra says “for the moment the door is closed,” when it comes to renewing the Marvel Studios Spider-Man deal that keeps Tom Holland in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse for the future of Tom Holland as Spider-Man, it does. During Variety’s Entertainment and Technology summit, Sony Pictures Chief Tony Vinciquerra revealed that, at this time, there is zero chance for Tom Holland and Spider-Man to remain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Vinciquerra maintains that there is “no ill will” against Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and even goes on to explain the fun they had working with him:

“We had a great run with (Feige) on Spider-Man movies, we tried to see if there’s a way to work it out….the Marvel people are terrific people, we have great respect for them, but on the other hand we have some pretty terrific people of our own. Kevin didn’t do all the work.”

Vinciquerra continues by reassuring Tom Holland fans that Spider-Man is safe in the hands of Sony:

“Spider-Man was fine before the event movies, did better with the event movies, and now that we have our own universe, he will play off the other characters as well. I think we’re pretty capable of doing what we have to do here.”

Fortunately, Tom Holland’s time as Spider-Man has not come to an end as Sony is currently planning to produce a third film with him as the wall-crawler. However, as previously mentioned, the next Spider-Man film won’t be able to feature any of Tom Holland’s Marvel Cinematic Universe co-stars unless Sony and Disney can resume negotiations and reach an agreement.

In the meantime, Tom Holland fans can relive his final outing in the MCU with the extended cut of Spider-Man: Far From Home in theaters. Here the official synopsis for the movie:

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.
