Sony Sets ‘Silver And Black’ Release Date; ‘Bad Boys 3’ Now Unset

Silver and Black SonySony has now announced an official release date for their upcoming Spider-Man spinoff Silver and Black. The film featuring the characters Silver Sable and Black Cat will be released on February 8, 2019. Silver and Black will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and will be the next Spider-Man spinoff following Reuben Fleischer’s standalone Venom starring Tom Hardy.

Along with the confirmed release date for Silver and Black, Bad Boys 3 is now unset. The planned action sequel was originally set for a release on November 9, 2019 and the release slot will be replaced with the upcoming Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly comedy, Holmes and Watson. According to Deadline, the screenplay for Bad Boys 3 is still being worked on and Will Smith still has interest in the project.

With Sony going all in with Venom and Silver and Black, their path to creating their own cinematic universe is all coming together. They originally planned on crafting their own cinematic universe with The Amazing Spider-Man with a standalone Sinister Six film in development by Drew Goddard.

However, because of the underwhelming box office performance of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, those plans fell through and left Sony reaching a deal with Marvel Studios to reboot the character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although Peter Parker is now fighting alongside the Avengers, these planned spinoff films will remain separate from the MCU.
