‘Spawn’ Film Will Be A Darker R-Rated Project Says Todd McFarlane

With the apparent rise of R-rated comic book adaptation popularity, Todd McFarlane wants fans to know he wants to go even further. With the recent success of both Deadpool and Logan, McFarlane thinks the Spawn script has some true “dark R” potential.

At Emerald City Comic Con with Stan Lee this past weekend, McFarlane couldn’t hold excitement back for the project.

“Listen, I’m going to paint it for you. The movie is going to be a dark R. If here’s PG-13 and here’s Deadpool and here’s Logan, we’re going to be here. It’s going to be dark. It’s going to be nasty.”

“I’ve already talked to Stan, and he’s going for it.”

McFarlane admitted he couldn’t update us much yet, but promised we’ll hear more come San Diego Comic Con. The last update for the film wasn’t nearly as promising, with McFarlane unsure of if the studio would go for it. Now it seems, McFarlane is quite sure the project will be moving forward at full speed.
